WES Foderingham believes that international breaks will help ensure that Swindon Town remain fresh as they look to continue their fine start to the season.

The County Ground outfit have be benefitting from a week’s break due to Massimo Luongo, Brad Smith and Yaser Kasim international call-ups.

The 23-year-old stopper feels that the rest will only help stave off fatigue during a long, hard campaign.

“I think it (the rest) is a bit of blessing,” Foderingham said. “Our squad is fairly small so we are going to need the rest. The boys that are playing internationals need rest as well.

“It keeps the squad fresh when these Saturday-Tuesdays come about later in the season, it gives us a chance to be ready for those games.”

And following the furore surrounding Liverpool teenager Raheem Sterling’s revelation that he was too tired to start for England over the weekend, Foderingham says that it not just the physicality of the game that takes its toll on young players but the mental aspect as well.

“When you are young it is difficult because you are facing different sort of pressures (from fatigue),” Foderingham said.

“When you are older and more experience you can say you are body doesn’t react as well, mentally you are in a better state of mind - people don’t take that into consideration when they talk about fatigue.

“I think the rest is going to do the younger boys - I say the younger boys (but) everyone is young (in our squad) - will do us the world of good.”

Foderingham says that when Luongo, Smith and Kasim return to training this Saturday ahead of the trip to Yeovil Town that they will have an extra zip about their game after being on international duty.

The former Fulham youngster believes that can only help Mark Cooper’s men as they continue their push to the Championship.

“It gives you confidence. You go away playing international football, you come back here and build on what you have been doing for the rest of the season,” said Foderingham of the three internationals. “When they are back in training they will be ready to go.

“We are pleased to see that we have got boys in our team that are playing international football, they come back with a smile on their face.”
