THE heavyweight duel of the day was at the Beeches, Shaw, where leaders Melksham Town A suffered a first defeat of the season.

They were beaten 5-2 by second in the table FC Box Steam Brewery, who were indebted to their strike pairing of Jason Povey and hat-trick man Rueben Spong who shared the goals.

Tom Jones and Dan Moore netted the Melksham replies.

A 12-3 victory for Potterne FC at Aces FC saw them leapfrog their hosts into third.

Greg Richardson drew Aces level after they had fallen behind to a Tom Lye goal but Potterne moved 6-1 in front before Tom Lakeman scored two for the hosts before the break to give them a glimmer of hope.

Lye scored five in total for Potterne, Matt Tacusso, Wayne House, Ben Mason, Neil Clark, Lee Sanders with two and a Kris Westerman own goal making up their dozen.

Mid-table FC Trowbridge and Bratton met, the latter taking the spoils 4-3 victory after Trowbridge had overcome a 3-0 interval deficit to level.

Two goals from Neil Gordon and Ian Young’s single put Bratton in what seemed to be complete control, but Oli Fox, Kieran Green and Natti Mills squared things up before Dan Cox bagged the winner on 85 minutes.

The Stiffs maintained their fine start as they overcame a 2-0 deficit to claim a 2-2 draw at home to Worton & Cheverell Reserves. Martin Dickenson scored twice, the first a controversial opener as Stiffs players stopped for what seemed to be a bad injury to a Worton player, to give Cheverell the advantage.

But Rob Clark’s first of the season and Dave Carroll’s thunderbolt from 25 yards restored parity.

Bottom side Zeals FC took the lead at home to Hilperton United Reserves, but were beaten 5-1 to extend their losing run to four games.

Steve Wyatt’s goal gave Zeals the lead, but Lewis Smith, Ben Lee and Jason Lucas found the net for Hilperton, Smith and Lee adding further goals after the break.
