SHANE Moore fancies Swindon Wildcats to claim another notable English Premier Ice Hockey League scalp on the road tomorrow night – as long as they don’t get dragged into a Dogfight.

Wildcats, with wins at champions Manchester and Guildford already behind them in the early weeks of the season, are in form and travel to take on Sheffield Steeldogs at IceSheffield (face-off 5.30pm).

Defenceman Moore agrees that their away form is a real feather in Swindon’s cap so far, but knows recent results mean they are there to be shot at by their divisional rivals.

He knows what to expect from the hosts in Yorkshire but has urged his teammates not to get knocked out of their stride.

“This week is going to be a tough one, but we know that if we play our skilful hockey we should be good enough to win the match,’’ he told the Swindon Advertiser.

“If we get involved in silliness, it can be a tough night. Sheffield like to rough it up and play the rough stuff. We have guys who can do that, but we don’t need get involved and just play our game.

“We’ve played really well away from home so far this season. I think the rinks have really suited the way we want to play and IceSheffield should be another one where we can play our skating hockey.’’ Moore skippered Swindon last season, but the Cats have passed the honour around the team so far this term, with head coach Ryan Aldridge revealing a more permanent appointment is likely to be made via a vote this weekend.

“The good thing about our team is that we have really good leaders and it’s hard to pick one,’’ Moore added.

“It’s nice to be captain and be a leader, but we have six or seven guys who are natural leaders so perhaps it doesn’t matter as much.’’
