DEVIZES were unable to recover from a slow start as they slipped to a second defeat of the season.

Windsor grabbed the early advantage with a pair of penalties from Chris Laidler for a 6-0 lead and, despite Windsor being reduced in numbers by a sin-binning, Devizes were unable to take advantage.

The home side then attacked after Devizes had missed touch and made territory quickly, resulting in a try under the posts.

With the visitors struggling, things got worse as Windsor went in again for a try, the conversion being added by Laidler.

Saddlebacks’ coach John Kimberley fired the squad up at half time and, as Windsor fell foul of the referee’s whistle in the second period, two penalties from Rory Brown cut the deficit to 12 points.

Devizes continued to fight hard and were almost in for their first try of the day as flanker Josh Lewis was tackled just before the line.

The visitors rallied and worked the ball wide to winger Jorge Wadman, who handed off and then showed great footwork to go round the final defender for his first try of the campaign.

Devizes continued to batter at the Windsor line but Laidler inched the home side further ahead with another penalty.

Back came the visitors and, after a bullocking run from Chris Lewis, the ball was worked wide to Chris Barter to finish in the corner.

Brown added a difficult conversion to bring Devizes within three points.

Windsor upped the ante and in the final quarter burrowed over the Devizes line, with visiting scrum-half Tom Collins now in the sin-bin for an offence at the breakdown.

Brown kicked another penalty to bring them back within losing bonus point range.

But with Collins still in the sin-bin, off a scrum won against the head, Windsor fashioned a well-worked backs move to score again.

Another try through the centres in the dying moments wrapped up the victory for the home side.
