CHIPPENHAM Park chief Dave Ferris admitted to a bout of ‘déjà vu’ as he saw his side suffer a second successive 2-1 home defeat last weekend.

Ferris’ men, who were also beaten at Hardenhuish Park by Oldland Abbotonians last week, went down by the same scoreline on Saturday with Mark Robinson’s first half opener cancelled out as Chard Town took all three points.

But the Park boss couldn’t fault his team’s effort and thinks that, just like against Oldland, his players didn’t necessarily deserve to come out on the losing side.

“I think that I’m a believer in the phenomenon of déjà vu now,” said Ferris.

“We’ve taken the game to Chard and after playing well for the first 25 minutes or so and everything seemed hunky-dory after Mark Robinson put us ahead but we’ve then conceded from a free-kick just inside our own area.

“We’ve carried on taking the game to them in the second half but once again, we’ve ended up conceding a second goal.

“There were a lot of similarities to the game against Oldland last week, although they were a side that played football and Chard were very well-organised at the back.

“At the end of the day, we’ve conceded four goals and three of those have come of our own making, so they’re things that we can do something about.

“My players haven’t stopped working from the first minute and I think that they haven’t had the proverbial good luck in both games.”

Swindon Town academy goalkeeper Connor Johns made his debut between the sticks for Park against Chard.

Ferris added: “Chippenham Town have a great rapport with Swindon Town and we just thought that getting him in on a work experience loan was an opportunity we should take. He’s only 16 or 17 but you could see that he’s been well-schooled.”

Ferris’ side go looking to bounce back to winning ways at Roman Glass St George next weekend.
