SWINDON Wildcats head coach Ryan Aldridge hailed his side’s 4-2 success at Guildford Flames bigger than their inaugural win at champions Manchester Phoenix the previous week.

The Link Centre men produced a stunning comeback at the Guildford Spectrum to avenge Saturday’s 4-2 loss at the Link Centre.

With points from last night’s win in Surrey counting for both the EPL and the Challenge Cup, Cats are sending out a message of their power this term.

“I think this was a bigger win than last week,” Aldridge told the Advertiser after the match. “We just have to improve on that now and keep moving on.

“We have to realise what we are good at and stick to those things, we are good when we play good team defence.

“When you play against this team it is always going to be tough, to take the points off them in their building is very tough.

“I think that we got the points that we deserved from last night tonight.

“The last 30 minutes, the way we played was outstanding. We worked hard got the points - Stevie Lyle kept us in it for the first half to give us the chance of the win.”

Things did not start to well for Ryan Aldridge’s men as the hosts took the lead with 4.48 on the clock when a long range shot from Jez Lundin caught Stevie Lyle out and sailed into the net.

Despite having the lion’s share of the shots, Cats, who saw Kenton Smith binned for six minutes for using the butt of his stick, had 15 to Flames nine, in the first period, it was the hosts who had dominated.

There appeared to be no signs of the any let up for the visitors when Flames doubled their advantage on 21.55, this time a long range strike from Branislav Kvetan catching out Lyle.

But the Cats were not to be outdone. Before the end of the period they had taken the lead with superb play.

Flying Finn Henri Sandvik got Cats on the board on 30.15 when he turned the puck home with Adam Harding and Steve Whitfield getting the assists.

On 35.54 Tomasz Malasinski pulled the visitors level after good work from Ollie Betteridge and Jan Kostal putting the Pole to score.

Lee Richardson put Cats into the lead for the first time on 39.21 when Malasinski played him to score.

Aaron Nell made it 4-2 to Cats when some good work from Harding played in the ex-Great Britain forward to tuck the puck home.

The final period was a thrilling one with Flames trying to find a way back into this double-header, while Cats were determined to stretch their lead.

But both teams held firm as the visitors avenged their 4-2 defeat from last night following a brilliant comeback.
