SWINDON captain Troy Batchelor will be looking to get one over on his Robins boss Alun Rossiter this evening as the World Cup gets underway in King’s Lynn.

Batchelor is part of the Australia team for Event One, which will look to see off competition from Rossiter’s Great Britain side, as well as USA and Italy, to progress to the final next Saturday.

Grand Prix rider Batchelor knows it’s his job to send his team manager home disappointed and is happy to have the chance to do so on a King’s Lynn track he and his fellow Aussies all know well.

“That’s speedway, one day they’re your friends and then the next you’re racing against them, so come Saturday my job is to win for Australia,” he said.

“We love that place (King’s Lynn), it’s like a home track for us.

“I rode there for a bit and the other boys all enjoy it and it’s a really cool, fair track where we will get a fair meeting.

“For us we always seem to be around the medals and we always fight and never give up, that’s what gets us results.

“To win one would be nice because it’s been a long time since Australia’s won one, but this year it’s looking good.

“If we all ride like we can then we can definitely do something.”

Batchelor’s Australia will have to get past final hosts Poland if they are to lift the World Cup trophy, which the Swindon captain admitted is no easy feat.

“Poland are tough to beat in Poland, they always seem to pull something out and have a deep selection of riders and pull them from nowhere,” he said.

“Every year they have a different squad but still put something good together, they’re at their own track too and they have had plenty of practice on it.”
