LEWIS Prosser reckons he and his Wales teammates have every chance of pulling off a few shocks at the Commonwealth Games.

The 25-year-old, who grew up in Marlborough, is part of Wales’ 16-man squad for Glasgow and will be aiming to help his team upset Scotland, Australia, India and South Africa in Pool A.

Former Dauntsey’s pupil Prosser, who helped Great Britain U20 win bronze at the 2009 Australia Youth Olympic Festival, was part of the Welsh squad that narrowly missed out on qualification for the 2010 Commonwealths in Dehli.

“I think that we could cause a few teams a surprise. We’re in a tough group but we’re looking forward to showing people what we’re about,” said Prosser.

“We missed out on qualifying in 2010 by 0.5 points and I was part of that team. This will be the biggest competition I’ve been involved in since the Great Britain U20s.

“It’s my first multi-sport event and I’m really looking forward to it.

“We have got a psychologist with the squad because it might be hard for some people to get used to being around an athletes’ village and things like that. But I think it will be exciting.”

The former Team Bath man has spent last season playing for Belgian club Gantoise after a year with RS Tenis in Spain.

He will return to these shores with Surrey-based Surbiton next season, to give himself the best chance of making the Great Britain team for the 2016 Olympics.

Prosser added: “The Great Britain coach said that he needed to see more of me so the best thing for me to do was to come back and play in this country.

“I have to give myself the best chance of making the team for Rio – if I don’t end up getting selected, at least I did everything I can.”
