WESTBURY United Reserves suffered their first defeat in this season’s Trowbridge Windows & Conservatories-sponsored Trowbridge & District League Division One campaign after they were beaten 4-2 at a resurgent Castle Combe side who have been in fine form since their opening-day defeat at Trowbridge Wanderers.

Combe, now in second place in the standings, made the best possible start and were ahead within the opening 15 seconds, Carl Dawson finding the target almost from the kick-off.

Dawson had the chance to double Combe’s advantage but saw his penalty saved by keeper Scott Armstrong.

The miss was soon forgotten as Will Gale was on target Combe to make it 2-0 and before half time Gale made Westbury pay for not taking their chances with his second and the villagers' third of a profitable first half.

After the break Westbury made a positive start and got themselves back in the game, Eben Mortimer-Taylor and then Elliott Hughes scoring to reduce the arrears to the odd goal.

They should have really levelled things up before Will Gale wrapped up Combe’s win when having taken over spot-kick duties from Carl Dawson he netted from 12 yards to complete his hat-trick to give the villagers their second successive win over Westbury.

Bradford United 3 Lamb FC 4

A LATE goal from substitute Ryan Underwood helped Lamb FC claim an incredible 4-3 victory over Bradford United who, for a second successive weekend were left wondering what might have been had then been able to defend to the final whistle, especially as they had led on three occasions at home to the Trowbridge based visitors.

A great team move from Bradford led to them taking the lead, Richie Bliha providing the final cross for Max Bougeard to turn home for 1-0.

Lamb were level before half time thanks to Kieran Fereday who scored from the penalty spot to restore parity.

A second from Bougeard, this time a somewhat fortuitous effort put Bradford back in front only for Sam Stevens to bring the Lamb level for a second time.

Phil Little put Bradford ahead for the third time in the contest but back came the Lamb with substitute Underwood squaring things up for a third time.

Lamb then broke the scoring sequence and went ahead for the first time in the game when a second from Underwood unlocked the Bradford defence for a fourth time to hand the visitors to Culver Close their second win in two games and leave the hosts winless in three.

Freshford United 6 Warminster Town Reserves 3

FRESHFORD United had to come from a goal down and survive a second half fight back by Warminster Town Reserves before claiming the points at Brown’s Park thanks to a 6-3 victory.

Warminster matched their hosts for the opening 20 minutes and took the lead through Matt Dyer. Steve Roddy grabbed a leveller for Freshford and they took the lead courtesy of a thumping 20-yard strike from Mark Gerrish, who added his second of the game and the villagers' third just before half time.

Ashley Williams flicked the ball home at the near post to reduce the arrears for Warminster early in the second half.

A penalty from Russell Whatley saw Freshford regain a two-goal cushion which became three courtesy of an excellent strike from Tom Rooney.

A second of the afternoon from Matt Dyer kept Warminster in the game, but any hopes of a comeback were ended by the hosts hotshot striker Steve Roddy whose tremendous finish wrapped up victory for Chris Birleson’s men, who now look to be getting into top gear following their opening day loss to Westbury United Reserves.

North Bradley 3 Steeple Ashton 1

IT MAY not have been a vintage North Bradley performance, but manager Chris Carr was happy that his team came away from Leighton Sports Centre with the three points in the bag following their 3-1 win over an understrength Steeple Ashton side, who are struggling to find their feet following their return to the top flight after a season out of it.

Scott Askew headed home a Jason Povey cross to put Bradley ahead. Ashton found themselves level before the break with Rafal Whitcher scoring direct from a corner to make it one-apiece.

Bradley regained the lead when Askew turned in a Dean Murden cross at the near post and they had the chance to extend their lead further when they were awarded a penalty, but surprising the usually-reliable Reuben Spong missed the spot kick.

Bradley finally sealed the points and their third win of the season when Dean Murden thumped home a brilliant half volley to complete the scoring.

Semington Magpies 8 Trowbridge Wanderers 0

AN INSPIRED performance from five-goal hero Andy Harrision left Semington Magpies were flying high on Saturday afternoon after an 8-0 victory at home to Trowbridge Wanderers gave Ricky King’s side their first win of the season and it also saw them move out of the drop zone.

A first-ever goal for the club from Corey Williams gave Magpies the lead, Andy Harrison added goals two and three before Jon McChesney netted just before half time to give Magpies a healthy 4-0 lead at the break.

Magpies hit four more unanswered goals in the second half with Harrison getting his third of the afternoon not long after the restart.

Harrison then added another two as he took his tally for the game to five before Chris Berrelly finished off the scoring to make it eight and had it not been for the Wanderers keeper who made a number of good saves the score could have been a lot worse.
