MARLBOROUGH skipper Nathan Morgan insists his side will focus on the job in hand despite the looming spectre of a trip to the home of English rugby.

The Common side travel to Chipping Norton tomorrow (2pm) to contest the Southern Counties Senior Vase Final – victory in which would leave them just a win away from a trip to Twickenham.

Marlborough reached what are effectively the national vase quarter finals by beating Melksham to win the Dorset & Wilts Vase late last year, then easing past Hungerford at a regional stage.

Victory this weekend would send them to a last-four clash against either Devon’s Teignmouth or Gloucestershire’s Drybrook with the prize of a final against the winner of the south east and London region at stake.

Morgan said: “The guys have been aware of what we have been going into ever since we beat Melksham to win that final.

“There has always been a bit of chatter about it, but obviously it’s a lot closer now than it was a few months back.

“Everything is getting a bit more serious now and the coaches are on at us a lot more.

“From a Marlborough point of view it’s really good for the club. There is a lot more structure at senior levels of the club and we’ve had a good season so far.’’ Norton are currently second in the Berks/Bucks & Oxon Premier Division and could feature hooker Tom Phillips – a former Marlborough player – among their ranks.

Morgan added: “That will add something to the game.

“The players are all up for it and we had good training sessions earlier in the week.’’
