LOCAL football was facing its first washout of the season as heavy rain and flooding continued to cause problems across the country today.
All matches in the Toolstation Western League were postponed earlier today, while matches involving Malmesbury Victoria - whose Flying Monk ground was under water - and Wootton Bassett Town in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Division One West were also off.
Pewsey Vale's Sydenhams League Division One clash with East Cowes Victoria was also a casualty, while in the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division, Frome Town's home clash against Bedford Town was postponed.
Chippenham Town's trip to St Albans City in the same division remained on, but the entire Trowbridge & District League programme was washed out, with officials in today's Plaister Autos Wiltshire League and the Chippenham & District Sunday League tomorrow expecting similar problems for their programmes.
In rugby, the Dorset & Wilts One North clashes between Chippenham 2nd and Bradford on Avon, Trowbridge 2nd and Devizes 2nd and Melksham and Combe Down were off, as were the Two North games between Combe Down 2nd and Chippenham 3rd and Westbury 2nd and Swindon College Old Boys 2nd.
In Three North, the matches between Bradford on Avon 2nd and Melksham 3rd and Devizes 3rd and Supermarine 3rd were also postponed.
