“If it happens (promotion) this year it is something fantastic. The plan is three years. If we go up it is amazing but we are under no pressure because we must maintain the category and then we invest for next year.”

Those were Paolo Di Canio’s comments after watching his side comfortably beating Walsall on Saturday night.

He seemed to distance himself from seeing his side reach the Championship this season.

Since Di Canio arrived in May 2011 he has never doubted his own ability as a manager and what his team can achieve – and I don’t believe he’s lost that confidence in his side or the club.

It’s clearly a tactic aimed at the board saying he needs some more quality players, and quickly.

Last week, talk about a possible loan move for Sheffield Wednesday striker Gary Madine surfaced. Hopefully there is some substance to these stories.

When the Owls gained promotion back to the Championship Madine played a huge part, scoring 18 goals in 38 league appearances.

But, as I mentioned last week, a ball winning defensive midfielder should be number one of Di Canio’s list of transfer targets.

Saturday was the club’s fifth win on the road in the last seven games in all competitions.

But at the County Ground, we’ve only won once in the last seven games, and that was seven weeks ago.

That’s a shocking record for a team whose main ambition is to finish in the top six and one we need to change with Yeovil arriving on Saturday.
