ROWING: Evans faces world task in Lithuania

WILTSHIRE rower Michael Evans will take the next step along the road to an Olympic place in Rio in 2016 this weekend.

Evans, from Ramsbury, is part of a 44-strong Great Britain squad at the World U23 Rowing Championships in Lithuania.

Many of the squad are hoping to break into the senior ranks for the Rio 2016 Olympic cycle and the 21-year-old is aiming to build on his previous results at the championships.

Evans, who is studying at Princeton University in the USA, won bronze at the 2011 World U23s in Amsterdam in the men's eight, with whom he also took bronze in Belarus the year before.

This time, he races in the men's four with Andrew Holmes, George Rossiter and Patrick Lapage. The championships, held in Trakai from Thursday to Sunday, will feature more than 800 rowers from 56 countries.
