CALNE teenager Simon Nott triumphed in the inaugural Chippenham Harriers’ five-mile road race on Sunday.

The 18-year-old, of Horsebrook Park, led home a field of more than 90 at then event at Chippenham Rugby Club.

Nott’s time of 26 minutes 40 seconds gave him the £50 cash first prize, sponsored by Norman E Webb Ltd, with Peter Marritt (Southampton City AC second in 28:42 and Stuart Henderson (Corsham Running Club) third in 29:16.

The male veteran prize was claimed by the Harriers’ own Jeremy Coward in 29:55. Bristol and West AC’s Nicola Brookland was the female winner in 30:26, also claiming the first female veteran prize.

Wootton Bassett Hounds’ Sam Kelly was second (32:03) ahead of the Chippenham Harriers own Melanie Blackman (34:46). The first senior female was Debbie Jones, also from the Harriers in 34:55.

The Hounds claimed both the men’s and ladies’ team prizes. The men’s team featured Brian Cooke (31:17), Jason Parr (32:45), Dan Stephens (34:44) and Martin Cooper (34:49) and the ladies’ Kelly (32:03), Michelle Leighton (35:16), Dawn Mccafferty (38:56) and Lorraine Ferris (41:21).

The family fun runs at the event saw 65 runners take part in full or half-mile races.

The next Harriers’ race is the club’s annual 5k River Run and Fun Run on Wednesday, July 11. See chippenhamharriers.co.uk
