EMERALDS ABC fighter Connor Gray emerged victorious from a championship bout in London last week.

The 19-year-old was offered the chance to fight for Rosehill ABC man Beau Jeffrey’s welterweight title, but only at four days’ notice.

Emeralds head coach Liam Lathbury did some quick research into Jeffrey, discovering that he was a big puncher, having stopped seven of his last nine opponents.

However, it was felt that Gray’s silky smooth and awkward southpaw style would be too much for the champion, and the decision to take the fight proved the right one.

Although Jeffrey tried everything he could to draw Gray into a war, it was to no avail as the 19-year-old kept his cool and boxed to the game plan to end the three three-minute rounds as the new champion with a well-earned points decision.
