CHIPPENHAM put the previous week’s defeat to Bridgwater behind them as they maintained their flawless Davis Wood League Central One home record with a 5-0 success over Bristol University B on Saturday.

Mark Knight missed an early opportunity before he made amends with a flick towards goal which was deflected in by a defender.

The second goal arrived after James Glover’s flick came back off a Bristol foot to earn a penalty stroke, which Glover slotted home.

In the second half, Ben Pitman-Jones’ looping effort made it 3-0 before Luke Morris powered home the fourth. The final goal arrived as Aled Evans, who deflected home.

Chippenham A lost ground to Central Two leaders Royal Wootton Bassett as they slipped to a 6-2 defeat to their county rivals.

Despite a bright start, Chippenham found themselves trailing by two goals at half-time.

The visitors rallied in the second half and scored a well-worked penalty corner, Elliot Jones deflecting the ball into the roof on the net but within a minute Bassett regained their two-goal advantage.

Bassett added three more goals before a Chippenham consolation came a minute from time when a mis-hit strike from a penalty corner found striker Craig Kilminster to slot the ball home.

Chippenham B were undone in the second half as they lost out 4-2 to West Wilts A in East Central One.

They drew first blood as Owen Baldwin found Dave Mantle, who scored against his old club but honours were even at the interval.

However, despite a first goal from Adam Timberlake, Chippenham conceded three times after the break.

In East Central Two, Chippenham C lost out 1-0 to title contenders Marlborough B but the D team had a 3-0 win over West Wilts C, Justin Porter and Sean Lane’s double doing the damage.
