CHIPPENHAM’S first team head into the Christmas break sitting second in the Go Crea8 League Central One table after signing off with an 8-3 success away at Somerset Gryphons.

There was also victory for Chippenham A as they beat South Glos 4-2 at home in Central Two.

The hosts started at a blistering pace and Dave Thomas and Henry Price combined to thread the ball through to Archie Wright on the wing. His cross beat the South Glos keeper and Nigel Stonham was on hand to tuck the ball home inside the opening 30 seconds.

Chippenham’s second goal came just three minutes later when Elliot Jones fired home.

South Glos managed to regroup and had plenty of pace through their forward line to counter-attack with speed but the Chippenham defence remained resolute to get to the break 2-0 to the good.

The second half started much more evenly, with both teams hunting the next goal.

It was Chippenham who added to their tally from a penalty corner as Thomas spun his marker before flicking the ball past keeper.

South Glos were not going to roll over and hit back with two goals of their own to reduce the deficit to one.

However, Chippenham rallied and extended their lead when Thomas weaved his way through the South Glos defence to round off the scoring.

It was honours even for Chippenham C in East Central Two as they drew 1-1 at North Wilts A.

Chippenham took the lead in the first half but the hosts hauled themselves level in the second.
