A TEAM of Wiltshire schoolgirls carved half a second off a county 4x100m relay record that had stood since 1970.
Competing for Kennet area, at the Wiltshire Schools’ Minor Boys and Girls (Year Seven) Championships, the foursome – all aged 12 – devastated the field to finish in 56.2 seconds, well inside the previous mark of 56.7.
Dauntsey’s School’s Phe Phe Pye, Talia Eastlake and Eliza Hill plus Edie Noble, from Lavington School, finished almost three seconds clear at Tidworth Oval.
Earlier Pye had won her 100m final convincingly in 13.8 seconds and was second in her long jump with 4.32m, while Noble also won her 70m hurdles in 12.4 secs and established a new county record for her age group in the javelin with a throw of 25.9m.
Marlborough & District Juniors Athletics club members taking podium places included Oscar Hennessy Leach, who won the 75m hurdles in a record 13.0 seconds, then jumped 1.49m to win the high jump, plus Ben Jones and Doug Rogan Rea.
