POOR qualifying and mixed weather conditions hampered Louis Harvey’s round three results in the British SuperOne Karting Championship this weekend at Clay Pigeon Raceway in Dorchester, as the Malmesbury youngster came home 24th out of 28 drivers in the final.

Starting in 21st place in the heats, Harvey pushed hard in the first race to finish 12th and entered the first corner of the second heat in a good position, only to collide with rival Will Orton, whose kart ended on top of Harvey’s vehicle.

With damage to his kart’s nose, Harvey suffered a 10-second penalty to finish last in the race.

Starting 21st in the rain-affected first final, he made a fine start to move up to ninth but, as the track dried, his tyres overheated and he lost grip to finish 18th.

Nudged off the track in the second final, he dropped to 24th but reached 20th, only for a damaged nose to bring another 10-second penalty.

At the meeting Harvey also met up with young F4 driver Billy Monger, who recently suffered life-changing injuries in an accident at Donington Park.
