CAPTAIN Greg Tindle only needs to take another look at the final Southern League Premier Division table to know that Chippenham Town are worthy champions.

The Bluebirds finished with a record points tally of 103 to secure promotion to the National League, ending the season 11 clear of nearest rivals Leamington.

Mark Collier’s men won 31 of the 46 league fixtures, losing just five times, leaving Tindle in no doubt that Hardenhuish Park is a fitting home for the championship shield.

“All you have to do is look at the stats over the course of the season,” said defender Tindle.

“We won the most games, lost the least games, scored the most goals, we had the best home record and the best away record. We have ticked all the boxes that you need to achieve success.

“In the end, we’ve won the league with a bit to spare. I’ve played in this league for a few years and it’s not very often that teams run away with it, which is what we’ve done.

“It was a great season and we totally deserved it.”

Manager Collier has already tied down Tindle to a new contract for next season, alongside Andy Sandell, Dave Pratt, Will Richards, Alex Ferguson and Matt Smith, as he puts together a squad capable of competing in the National League.

The Bluebirds skipper says the successful squad of 2016-17 all deserve the chance to make their mark at the higher level and is sure Chippenham can make the grade next term.

“It was an easy decision. I’m a local lad and I’ve really enjoyed my time at Chippenham and I’d like to stay here for many years to come,” said Tindle.

“It will be good to keep the majority of the group together as we did so well this season and I think we deserve the chance to play together again.

“The way everyone performed was a testament to what they put in to the club and I think everyone has earned the right to have a crack at the league above.

“Without a doubt, I think we can hold our own. I think maybe we need more competition and a slightly bigger squad as the games will come thick and fast.

“I’m sure Mark is talking to a few people and once we’ve got everything sorted, I think we can surprise a few people next season.”
