DEVIZES School student Alex Sharman will have his sights set on the National Summer Championships when he competes at the upcoming South West Regional Championships.

The 14-year-old has qualified for 11 events, but intends to narrow his schedule, with the regionals taking place over three days.

Sharman, who swims for the Bath-based Aquae Sulis club, has already won medals at county, regional, and Welsh national level, and swam for the county in the 100m backstroke and butterfly at the National County Team Championships at Sheffield last October.

At the Wiltshire County Championships, he won gold in the 100m and 200m backstroke races, and the 50m and 100m butterfly, along with silver in the 50m backstroke and 100m freestyle and bronze in the 200m freestyle.

In the older Junior (15 and under) championships, he won the 50m butterfly and 100m and 200m backstroke races, and was a creditable second in the 200m backstroke at the Senior Championships.
