DEVIZES Judo Club’s judoka have started their 2017 campaign in style with an impressive haul of medals at two high-level ranking events in as many weeks.

The competing squad of judoka travelled to Walsall for the Midland Open Championship on January 28-29, where Lewis Mersini led the way with gold in the A Band U30kg group.

Jasmin Edwards claimed silver in the U44kg pre-cadets class, Benjamin Mersini won bronze in U42kg pre-cadets and Jack Raklander and Isobel Mackay also took bronze in their weight groups.

The following week, the squad were on the road again, this time to Thetford, Norfolk, for the inaugural English Open, where Benjamin Mersini won silver and Edwards, Mackay and Raklander all secured bronzes.

All players also claimed points for the Ippon League.
