WILTSHIRE runner Eleanor Webster showed further evidence of returning to her best form after finishing among the medals at the 2017 Avon Schools’ Cross Country Championships, writes Kevin Fahey.

The 13-year-old from Alderton, near Malmesbury, ran the Avon event and not this month’s Wiltshire Championships as she is a student at Kingswood School in Bath.

Despite missing a chunk of training over Christmas due to injury, she finished a fine second to her Team Bath clubmate Enya Maylor in the junior girls’ race.

“I am really happy with that run,” said Webster. “I have recently had an injury to my Achilles tendon so had to take a month off from training and racing and completely rest it.

“I had to be careful with my rehab and while I was disappointed with my run at the South West Championships in Exeter a few weeks ago, Saturday was much better.

“I feel I am progressing with every race and my aim is to qualify for the English Schools’ Championships.”

Another solid run in the South West Schools’ Championships, which are scheduled for a week on Saturday in Truro, should cement her selection.

Also at the the Avon Championships held at Aston Park School, Bristol, was Max Davis in the hotly contested inter boys’ race.

Sixth last year, Davis, who is a member of Avon Valley Runners, couldn’t live with eventual winner Sam Gentry of North Somerset but was a safe second.

Having switched to Bath College from John of Gaunt School, Trowbridge runner Caitlin Wosika, who won the Wiltshire inter girls’ title last year, lined up for the Avon Schools’ for the first time and finished eighth to make the team for the South West Schools’ in Truro.

n CORSHAM’S Jade Littlechild continued her fine start to 2017 in the latest British Cross Challenge event in Cardiff.

Just a week after winning her first Wiltshire Schools’ cross country title, the Team Bath runner finished 10th in the U17 women’s race with clubmate Caroline Brenchley 12th.
