WILTSHIRE teenager Polly Maton admitted the Paralympic Games had been an overwhelming experience after finishing fifth in the women's T47 100m final in Rio this evening.

Maton, 16, clocked 13.09 as the USA's Deja Young took the gold medal, the Urchfont youngster following up her seventh placed finish in the long jump on Thursday evening.

Starting from the lane next to five-time Paralympic champion Yunidis Castillo, Maton battled hard, despite Castillo pulling up injured midway through the race.

"I've been here for experience and it's been amazing,'' said Maton afterwards.

"The Brazilian crowd has been amazing. I've never experienced a stadium like this. It's been pretty overwhelming.

"She (Castillo) was one of the favourites coming into the competition. I wouldn't say it (her injury) put me off but it was definitely there.

"I knew I had a shot at a medal but I didn't push off right at the end, but it was a really enjoyable race anyway.''
