CALNE & Swindon East TAGB Tae Kwon-Do assistant instructor Katie Franks fought her way to three titles at the 11th Taekwondo International World Championships in Birmingham.

Franks was one of more than 3,720 entries, with participants from 19 countries, and in the ladies black belt light-heavyweight point stop division, she showed her dominance throughout each round to claim her first crown.

The ladies black belt tag team saw Franks team up with former world champions Nicola Line and Phillipa Life and eventually lost out to another England team member, to earn a bronze medal.

After failing to medal in the ladies black belt patterns, Franks contested the black belt light heavyweight continuous division, to wrap up her second gold.

She also took part in the International Team event, representing the TAGB’s England team.

The three-woman team, also featuring Claire Searle and Amy Clay, dominated the early rounds and, although the final against Scotland proved closer, a third world title was secured.

Franks’ instructor, Master Martyn Dipper, said: “I’m very pleased with Katie’s performance.

“She’s trained incredibly hard leading up to this event.

“We’ve worked daily on various areas, including fitness, technical training and pad work, as well as also watching her diet and controlling any injuries picked up on the way.

“She had a superb weekend and everything came together as we planned.’’
