TOMMY Bridewell cannot wait to be at full throttle again as the lights get set to turn green on the new British Superbike Championship season this weekend.

Etchilhampton racer Bridewell will be in the 32-strong field when the competition gets under way at the home of British motor racing – Silverstone – from Friday.

With the curtain coming down on the 2015 season almost six months ago and a long winter testing programme completed, the riders are itching to get going again.

Although Bridewell is not expecting to be amongst the very front runners this weekend, he is still hopeful of getting off to a flying start.

“I am a little bit bored of testing now and I am just looking forward to racing for real,” said the 27-year-old.

“Silverstone is a great track, with great facilities. It’s a track that I have always enjoyed racing on and hopefully I can do well there.

“In the first round of the season, you just want to get around safely but it would be nice to get a couple of top-six finishes as well.

“Obviously, we all go there to win and we all want to win but being realistic, we know there is still a little bit of work we need to do with the bike, so if we could get ourselves up into the top six a few times, then that would be a good effort.

“It’s been a productive winter. We’ve done some good stuff and tested out some useful things and got some good data to work with. Now we will see exactly what it all means.”

Silverstone will mark the first competitive outing for Bridewell with his new Bennetts Suzuki Halsall Racing team, having made a switch from Tyco BMW during the off-season.

Bridewell is happy with how quickly he has settled in his new surroundings and hopes that can help in flourish in 2016.

“It’s going to be nice to start racing finally.

“We have had a very good pre-season testing. The team has put in a good infrastructure underneath me and it’s been a good winter,” said Bridewell.

“It’s been going well. We’ve built up a strong relationship already and when you have got a team right behind you and believing in you, it makes a big difference. I just can’t wait to start now.”
