THE heavy rain leading up to this year’s annual Rough ‘n’ Tumble multi terrain running event held at Milton Lilbourne did not deter the 600 runners from taking part.
Conditions this year were incredibly muddy and slippy but with clear skies, the competitors were rewarded with a fine view of Milton Lilbourne hill.
The first three men were locked in battle until the final mile, where Iain Rutherford, of City of Salisbury athletic club, showed his superior downhill running skills to pull away on the notorious steep and muddy descent of The Gully to win in a time of one hour 12.06 minutes.
Chippenham Harriers’ Stuart Padget was second in 1.12.33, while Cheltenham’s James Thomas came third in 1.12.50.
In the women’s race, Avon Valley Runner Ruth Barnes was a clear winner with an excellent time of 1.15.45, finishing seventh overall, Chippenham Harriers’ Tess Warnes was second in 1.26.50.
