BARBURY racecourse features a packed programme for the Point to Point Owners & Riders Club meeting on Sunday.

With Olympic cycling champion Victoria Pendleton poised for her second outing over fences, partnering Alan Hill’s According to Sarah in either the novice riders of ladies open races, the leading trainer also has Alpha Native going in the opening race.

“He’s schooled the best I’ve seen since we got him and the owner, Susannah Gill, is excited about riding him,” confirmed the trainer.

Other likely runners include Claire Hart’s Marblehead – a first ride for 18-year-old Ruth Dudfield, who works for Charlie Longsdon and Hunters Lodge, the mount of Gareth Henderson.

A total of 25 horses have been entered for the Novice Riders race, sponsored by Dodson & Horrell, with the highest rated being Iberico, who won a Mens Open at Woodford before a close second to Fruit Fayre at Chaddesley Corbett.

Coeur De Fou, Royal Riviera, Triptico and Trouble Digger also showed useful form between the flags last year. Bang On Time, to be ridden by George Bingham, makes his debut in points having won four chases under rules in 2015 for Richard Woollacott.

Among the 18 entries in the Simpsons Subaru Mens Open is Hill’s Harbour Court, now owned by Rodney Mann and ridden by trainer’s son Joe, who bounced back to form with an impressive Cheltenham victory in April.

He is likely to be opposed by All Great N Theory, returning for Julie Marles after missing last season and another with a new jockey in Sam Davies-Thomas.

The Kim Smyly-trained No Loose Change and Out Now, both of whom had useful Hunter Chase form last season for rider David Maxwell oppose.

Champion trainer Jack Barber has entered Ghizao, who returned to form with a vengeance when Will Biddick took over the ride last season. Rated 153 when he last ran for Paul Nicholls, he stands a great chance if back to his best.

AGA representative David Simpson had his first winner as an owner last weekend so will probably still be smiling as he presents the prize to winning connections after the Ladies Open, which has 11 entries. The useful Berties Dream, ridden by champion lady rider Gina Andrews, won this race last year and he looks the likely winner if reappearing.

Chelsea Jennings will be hopeful of a good run from her Charlton Horethorne winner Tony Dinozzo, while Claire Hart rides Lord Heathfield – a winner of three point-to-points in Ireland – for Christy Mews.

Midnight Sail and Viking Blond both have useful National Hunt form at their best and could go close if rejuvenated by the switch to pointing.

The first race is at noon, with the main entrance is off the Marlborough to Broad Hinton road (SN8 1RS). Entry is £10 per person.
