PETE Kibble claimed two top-ten finishes at the National Track Championships in Manchester recently.

Kibble, from the village of New Zealand near Calne, is predominantly a road cyclist but trains with the Welsh squad at Newport velodrome throughout the winter.

There were 62 junior male competitors at the event, with Kibble and his 4 Velocity Globalbike team-mates among the youngest, all aged just 17.

Kibble’s aim was to qualify for the finals of the endurance events - the scratch race and points race - and he duly delivered.

The scratch race final was an 80-lap race and he seized an opportunity to attack early on, working together with another rider to gain a lap on the remaining field of 24.

Later on in the race another five riders managed to gain a lap, which meant there were now seven riders going for gold. The race was fast and furious throughout, with Kibble eventually coming home in sixth.

He followed that up with 10th in the 120-lap points race, where points are awarded to the first four riders over the line every 10 laps.

She also competed in the 2k individual pursuit and the 500m time trial, winning both as well.
