KATIE Franks was crowned ladies’ Grand Champion at the International Taekwondo Charity Tournament in Alberta, Canada.

The competition was Franks’ first as a full international member of the Taekwondo Association of Great Britain team and was part of a scheme to help promote and raise funds to help get children into sport in Canada.

Franks, from Calne, kicked off the event by winning a bronze medal in patterns and then added a silver in point-stop sparring.

The first day ended with special breaking techniques and Franks wiped the floor in the ladies division, gaining her first gold of the competition.

On day two, continuous sparring took place and Franks took a comfortable gold, and followed that with another win in the international team event.

At the end of the competition, Franks’ medal haul saw her crowned overall ladies Grand Champion, with GB team-mate Tim Chow taking the men’s prize.
