POULSHOT tennis ace Amelia Bissett has been selected to represent Great Britain at the Summer Tennis Cup in the Netherlands after a spectacular summer.

The Wiltshire County under 12 junior player enjoyed success last month as she helped her GB team to win the Nations Cup at Queenswood, losing only one singles game as she competed against Croatia, Czech Republic, Ireland and Belgium.

That adds to wins for the 12-year-old in the doubles at Nottingham and Edinburgh, as well as final appearances in the singles at the same tournaments.

Bissett will join up with the GB squad for training on July 19th, before the tournament starts on July 23rd, and her mum Liz Bissett has said that she is too excited about wearing the GB outfit to worry about the pressure.

“There were six girls going for it and she was one of the three that was picked,” she said.

“She is number two in the country at the moment for her age so we knew that she was in for a chance, but you can never rely on that.

“She played in the Nations Cup and played at number two for GB. She played in GB One team and they won the whole thing.

“She only lost one singles game the whole week, so she is on fire at the moment.

“She seems to be taking the pressure quite well, and is keeping her feet on the ground as she balances doing her school work as well.

“It is a lot to deal with at a young age, but then we have been through it with her brother and we know what she is dealing with.

“The GB outfit is all she wants to wear.”

Bissett helped the Wiltshire U12s girls team to a runners-up finish behind Lancashire at the AEGON County Cup National Finals last weekend.
