THE Chippenham Games took place earlier this week, continuing the legacy of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.

The event saw a carousal of competitions held over two days for all year six pupils within the Chippenham Partnership of Schools at Stanley Park, and is delivered in partnership with Chippenham Town Council, with support, this year, from Chippenham Borough Lands.

Children had to work in mixed teams alongside those who they are due to attend secondary school with in September.

The Games forged links with local community organisations, sports clubs and coaches to promote youth engagement in physical activity, and young sports leaders from the town’s three secondary schools lead activities, act as role models and experience the benefits of volunteering.

This year the children mastered the art of the bouldering wall, learned how to play lacrosse, tchoukball and tri-golf as well as relaxing with a spot of yoga.

The annual traditions for the Games remain in place in the form of the whole games dance and the mini marathon.

Team GB modern pentahlete Katy Burke opened the Games before giving an inspiring message to the pupils.
