YATESBURY teenager Gemma Shepherd impressed at the British Milers’ Club PB Classic meeting in Milton Keynes.

Running the 2000m steeplechase for the first time, the 17-year-old Sheldon School student finished runner-up in 6:56.78 which is the sixth quickest in the UK this summer.

Meanwhile, a strong team effort earned Marlborough & District Junior Athletics (MADJA) second place overall in the second Wessex League match at Woking last Sunday.

It was another successful day for Edie Noble, who won the U11 Girls Quad Kids competition emphatically with 242 points.

Another standout performance came from St John’s pupil Sophie Smith, who put in a strong run to win the U13 Girls 1200m in 4:08:80.

U13 Thomas Holmes continued to impress in the boys javelin. After taking gold at the Wiltshire Championships – and smashing the county record by more than four metres – Holmes improved his personal best by another four and a half metres to win the event at Woking, with a throw of 37.92m.

He went on to win his 75m hurdles race in 14.2secs, whilst teammate Tom Barker won his stream with 14.6secs. Callum Short was first in the U17 400m with 57.2secs and brother Kieran won his discus event with 22.11m.

THE Wiltshire Schools’ Championships take place in Salisbury on Saturday. Events at the Five Rivers Leisure Centre get under way from 10am.
