YOUNG skiers from St Mary’s Calne A team came third in the overall unregistered teams at the British Schoolgirls’ Ski Races in France last week.

The A team of Hannah McLintock, Millie Smart, and Jemima Brown came third out of 17 schools in the unregistered category after the slalom and giant slalom races in Flaine.

As well as the team success, Hannah McLintock came third in the U16 unregistered Giant Slalom race with the tenth fastest time in her age group and 27th overall.

The unregistered category featured racers who had never been registered with the British Ski and Snowboard or the International Ski Federation.

The school sent two relatively inexperienced teams to the Alps with the girls meeting four-time Olympian and Britain’s number one female alpine skier Chemmy Alcott at the event.

The team spent Saturday and Sunday training on the Flaine slopes ahead of their Slalom, Giant Slalom and Parallel races on Monday and Tuesday.

In total, 45 schools and clubs with 137 skiers competed at the competition.
