WILTSHIRE Schools officials are cautiously optimistic that the County Schools’ Cross Country Championships will go ahead this Saturday (January 18).

The event was due to be held at Grittleton House School on Saturday but was postponed following a weather forecast predicting high winds for the area.

“The grounds of Grittleton House School are populated with mature trees and WSAA can’t run the risk of anyone being hit by a falling branch,” said a statement issued by the county.

“The strong winds that are forecast on Friday evening and Saturday morning could easily cause significant damage to some of the magnificent trees in the grounds of Grittleton House School.

“WSAA are sorry or any inconvenience this postponement may cause.”

The original timetable will still be used with the first race due at 10.15am and the final race at 11.35.
