WILTSHIRE LTA honoured Clubs and Players at their annual county awards ceremony at Marlborough Golf Club.

Local awards were presented by Sir Geoffrey Owen, the Wiltshire LTA President.

Calne Tennis Club were named 2014 club of the year, having worked hard over the last three years actively fundraising for their move to their new home at Beversbrook.

They successfully secured funding to enable their facility project to go ahead.

Julie Jones, LTA Participation Manager said: “This club strongly deserves this award for all their hard work in securing a new home.”

Chippenham Tennis Club’s Tony Clark was honoured for his outstanding contribution to tennis in 2014 A dedicated volunteer, he has been involved at the Chippenham club for more than 16 years, joining the committee in 2000 and becoming club secretary in 2004 and chairman in 2010.

Volunteer of the Year was was jointly awarded to husband and wife Sue and John Kirkman, from the Malmesbury club.

The pair have sat on the club committee for more than two decades, Sue holding the role of treasurer for 23 years, while John project-managed the resurfacing of courts and is managing the building of new courts and floodlighting.

Ema Lazic, from Next Generation Swindon, was named player of the year after representing Great Britain in the IC Junior Challenge Worldwide Finals 2014 at Wimbledon in 2014. Lazic, 15, also had success on the ITF junior circuit, with her Junior ITF ranking rising from 617 to 168.

Most improved player was Next Generation’s Sophie Clark, while Team of the Year was the Wiltshire Ladies team, who have gained successful promotions two years in a row at Winter County Cup.
