CHIPPENHAM head coach Danny Thomas is hoping that the champagne moments keep on flowing for his unbeaten side in 2015.

The Allington Field men brought the curtain down on their year by notching their 14th successive victory of the season, maintaining their sparkling 100 per cent record in South West One East.

Chippenham’s relentless march continued as they shattered Windsor’s long-standing unbeaten home record, the 25-10 success leaving them in pole position for a swift return to National League Three South West following their relegation last term.

“Windsor hadn’t lost at home for a long time – I think maybe even a couple of years – and they played well against us earlier in the season, so we were expecting a tough game,” said Thomas.

“But we coped well with some tough conditions and scored some good tries. It was very pleasing.

“Obviously, if somebody had said to us that we’d be in this position at Christmas, we would have taken it.

“We were looking at the last period as a really important one for us. We had Windsor, Towcestrians, Swindon and Newbury (Blues) in the space of five weeks but we managed to come through it.

“We’re in a good position and the belief among the guys is huge. It’s pretty much the same side that we had last year, with a few additions that have come in to bolster the squad, but we’ve simplified things a little bit and the boys have really taken to it.

“It is a cliché but we want to try and take every game as it comes. We want to try and go back up and hopefully, after we’ve had a week off over Christmas and the guys keep showing the same commitment, the run can continue.”

Chippenham have added to their options at full-back by signing on New Zealander Jimmy Owen, from Christchurch, who made his debut in Saturday’s win.

Thomas added: “He knows (flanker) Andy Rossiter, who spent a little bit of time out in New Zealand a little while ago. It’s always nice to add to our strength-in-depth.”
