BRIAN Ellis emerged the winner on a tough day on the Bristol Avon at Melksham for the latest Trowbridge Seniors match, writes COLIN SCULL.

The local angler bagged 2 lb 14 oz of roach and perch to take the win from Jim Escott, also from Melksham, with 2 lb of roach and perch.

Barry Oakford, from Trowbridge, was third with 2 lb 9 oz of perch.

Other placings: 4. Paul Brown Devizes 2 lb 8 oz 8 dm; 5. Bernie Ryan Devizes 2 lb 7 oz; 6. Ken Gingell Trowbridge 2 lb 0 oz.

SATURDAY’S Chippenham match on the Bristol Avon was won by Gary Etheridge, from Devizes, with 21 lb 3 oz of roach. Tony Scott, from Trowbridge, was runner up with 19 lb 8 oz of chub, followed by Nigel Smith, from Calne, with 15 lb 5 oz of dace.

Other placings: 4. Mick Gale Chippenham 15 lb 1 oz; 5. Guy Manners Chippenham 14 lb 2 oz; 6. Alex Hyde Chippenham 13 lb 13 oz.

SUNDAY’S Wilts Angling Open at Whaddon was won by Alan Hillier, from Westbury, with 12 lb 8 oz of roach and perch.

Steve Martin, from Frome, took runner up spot with 9 lb 14 oz of roach, followed by Dave Baker, from Trowbridge, with 9 lb 2 oz of roach.

Other placings: 4. Sean O’Neil Melksham 8 lb 0 oz; 5. Nigel Saunders Melksham 7 lb 8 oz; 6. Ian Stainer Trowbridge 5 lb 14 oz.

THE inter-club match between Airsprung and Royal British Legion at on the River Frome at Stowford Farm on Sunday was won by the Legion with 11 lb 9 oz to Airsprung 3 lb 13 oz.

Individually Bill Halls, of RBL, won with 3 lb 15 oz of roach and perch, with Dave Stone, of Airsprung, next with 3 lb 1 oz of roach. Joe Thompson, of RBL, was third with 2 lb 12 oz of roach.

Other placings: 4. Bill Knight RBL 1 lb 10 oz; 5. Chris Purshorse RBL 1 lb 8 oz; 6. Eric Davis RBL 1 lb 0 oz.
