MARLBOROUGH rider Andrew Nicholson claimed a treble at last weekend’s Salperton Park Horse Trials in Gloucestershire.

The New Zealander, who will defend his title at the St James’s Place Wealth Management Barbury International Horse Trials early next week, topped the standings in an Intermediate section B on Ulises, just ahead of Lambourn-based Great Britain star Laura Collett, riding Controe.

Nicholson struck again in Intermediate section C with Swallow Springs, just ahead of compatriot Tim Price, who is based in nearby Mildenhall, on Tricolore.

Nicholson’s trio of victories was completed with Cillnabradden Evo, in Open Intermediate section D.

Collett struck twice for victories in the novice sections, scoring with Mr Bass in section I and Colley Again in section L.

  • WILTSHIRE teenager Chelsea Pearce has been included on the Great Britain team long list for the FEI Pony European Championships at Millstreet, in Ireland (July 30-August 3).

Pearce, the daughter of former England U21 football manager Stuart Pearce, is the only rider from last year’s team, which secured double gold in Italy, to return.

She has been listed on both her individual ride of last year Catherston Nutsafe and Little Indian Feather, on whom she won the TCN1* at Salperton Park last weekend.
