SUTTON Benger teenager Johnny Ward was crowned Western Counties 50-52kgs Schoolboy champion after earning a unanimous decision in Exmouth on Saturday.
The 13-year-old, a member of Chippenham’s Emeralds Boxing Club, outpointed Jack Silk, of Lympstone ABC.
Emeralds secretary Martin Lathbury said: “Johnny won a unanimous decision with a perfect display of boxing skills and was quoted by many of the other coaches as being the most outstanding boxer of the night.’’
Ward moves on to the next phase of the competition and will contest a quarter-final against an opponent from London in Bodmin, Cornwall a week on Saturday, .
Emeralds’ Jim Cawley was a winner in a bout in Cheltenham last Friday.
