Wiltshire Girls League football round-up

Under 14 11-a-side: FC Chippenham Youth extended their lead at the top to 5 points with a 5-0 victory over local rivals Chippenham Town.

Laura Wilkey (2), Jasmine Newton, Gemma Ewles & Emily Barrett were on the mark for the Youth. In the Swindon local derby honours were shared between Badgers and Swindon Town Ladies in a 1-1 draw. Badgers equalized in the second half through Lulu McCarthy. On Sunday Derry Hill Thunder bounced back from their shock 7-0 defeat the previous week with a dozen unanswered goals against Wootton Bassett, to move to within 1 point of Badgers.

Under 14 7-a-side Both games in the 7-a-side division were postponed Under 13 Melksham Town Youth moved to within 1 point of the league title, but they were pushed all the way by an improving Swindon Spitfires, eventually picking up the 3 points with a 3-2 win, the goals coming from Mary Wallington (2) and Natasha Park. Trowbridge Town maintained the pressure with a resounding 9-0 victory over Bradford, but with 2 games remaining they are still 6 points adrift.

Under 12 A Division Lots of goals in the A Division, leaders Swindon Spitfires knocking 10 past luckless Wootton Bassett, who are still looking for their first points of the season. Swindon Town Reds though were rampant against Trowbridge Wanderers at Paxcroft Mead with 14 goals. Michaela Vitale lead the way with a double hat-trick, while Sarah Stiles scored 4 and Sophie Knight 2, with Charlotte Diss and Nicole Farmer completing the scoring. The result moves Swindon Town to within 6 points of Spitfires with a game in hand and with the two teams due to meet again before the end of the season.

Under 12 B Division Larkhall celebrated clinching the league title last week with a 6-1 victory over Chippenham Town, who at one time looked to be their main rivals, but have now fallen to the bottom of the table. Melksham Town Youth B and Lavington Juniors played a double header, with Lavington winning 2-1 at Melksham on Saturday, and on Sunday at Elisha Field, the teams shared 8 goals. The results mean that Lavington have now moved up to 3rd place after picking up 7 points from their last 3 matches.

Under 11 Just one game survived in the Under-11 division, with 5th placed Swindon Badgers visiting 4th placed FC Chippenham Youth and coming away with a surprising 6-1 victory.

Under 10 In the Under-10 Division, Swindon Town Blues signed off their league season with a visit to local rivals Swindon Spitfires. It has been a difficult season for the Blues, without a point all season, but to their immense credit they became the first team to complete their fixtures this season and avoided the ignominy of conceding a hundred goals by holding Spitfires to 4-0. The result moves Spitfires 3 points clear, but closest rivals Melksham have a game in hand. The two teams still have to meet home and away this season to decide who will win the under-10 championship, though Swindon Town Reds do maintain a mathematical chance of the title.
