CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION FOUR PREVIEW: Supporters’ next up for Old Road

SIX matches into the new season and Old Road FC (formerly Spartans) are the surprise leaders of Division Four.

The Chippenham side have already got nine points to their name which is two more than they managed in 20 outings last term and they will host Trowbridge Town Supporters Club brimming with confidence.

But with just win in four encounters against Kevin Williams' side they will have to work extra hard if they are to remain in pole position as the visitors to Langley Burrell have a god chance of picking up their second win in three outings.

With no win in three games, FC United of Chippenham travel to Nurstead Road, Devizes, hoping to arrest their poor run of form with a victory over hosts Crossblades, who themselves have managed just one win from their five games to date.

Tim Chilton’s side have been playing well of late and if lady luck is on their side then they could take maximum points from what should be a close game between two evenly-matched sides.

Like fellow newcomers FC United of Chippenham, Trowbridge Rangers got off to a fine start, winning their opening two games.

But since then they have lost four on the spin and a recent change of manager has failed to stop their slid down the table.

Rangers are on the road at Leafy Lane and a meeting with one of the pre-season favourites FC North Wiltshire is likely to end in another defeat for Michael Goddard’s chargers unless they can somehow rediscover the formula.

After picking up their first points of the season last weekend Oakhill will probably come crashing back down to earth with a bang when they visit second-placed Pig & Whistle United B who, to date, are looking very much a side who could be challenging for a top two finish come next May.

They are hot favourites to pick up another two points which would see them move top should Old Road lose their game.

Sportzcoach Dragonz United and Melksham Cosmos are fourth and fifth respectively in the standings which on paper means the teams look equally matched.

But if you had to choose a winner you would probably plump for Sportzcoach as they have won all three of their fixtures while Cosmos have managed just two wins from their five games.

The game will reunite a number of Cosmos players with their former teammates which will add a bit more of an edge to the fixture.
