CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION TWO: Honours even between Staverton and Goatacre

THE mouthwatering clash in Division Two between leaders Staverton and Goatacre CC ended in stalemate as Goatacre came from 2-0 down to claim a 2-2 draw.

Aaron Latchem's hosts will be happy to have got a point from the game as once the visitors to Atworth had got back on level terms they looked the more likely side to win the game.

Jason Povey continued his purple patch in front of goal when he gave Staverton a half-time lead.

Matt Hall doubled the hosts lead and at 2-0 it looked as if it was business as usual for Latchem’s men, but Goatacre fought their way back into the game and reduced the deficit through Darren Holcombe and earned the point when Jamie Crichton netted to level things up at two each.

Southwick Wanderers 3 Chippenham West End 7

SOUTHWICK Wanderers suffered a fourth successive loss after they were beaten 7-3 at home to Chippenham West End whose victory over Stuart Powell’s side moved them into second place in the standings.

West End made a steady start and were rewarded on 10 minutes when he lobbed keeper Mark Binns, five minutes later West end doubled their lead, Carl Britton went one-on-one with keeper Binns and calmly slipped the ball past him for 2-0.

Southwick pulled a goal back on 35 minutes, Jerrone Dyer flicking on for Carl Davies to net his first league goal of the season.

James Mulhall scored a fine second-half treble to put the game out of te reach of their hosts, Ben Hibberd and a second from Nash made up the seven.

Southwick scored two late goals, Jason Hughes tapping in his first ever goal for the club and Stuart Powell turning home a Tom Mann free kick for his team who had played the second half with 10 players after the loss of Bruce Johnson at half time. 

Wren FC 1 Somerford FC 11

A FIRST win in three games for Somerford has seen Spike Chandler’s side reignite their title challenge.

As expected the villagers had an easy time against bottom of the table Wren FC, having already beaten them 5-2 already their completed a league double with an 11-1 win at Leafy Lane.

Will Stone’s double and singles for Rob Preston and Will Robbins gave Somerford a 4-1 half time lead with Wren’s reply coming from Hayden Sheffield.

As with the first half it was one-way traffic with Somerford hitting a further seven unanswered goals. Ashley Monaghan helped himself to four, Will Stone added to complete his hat-trick.

Chris Yeo and Aaron Gales singles made up the 11.
