DIVISION FOUR: Worton stun Old Road to claim first win

ON THEIR early-season showing Old Road were expected to make it three wins on the bounce when they visited Worton & Cheverell (Sunday) and in turn claim the outright lead at the top of Division Four.

Worton who had lost their opening four fixtures tore up the formbook as they claimed a 6-3 win.

Worton came out on top with a great display of team spirit, grit and determination against a Old Road side who took the lead on 19 minutes when a clearance from the Worton keeper rebounded off Andrew Rose and into the net.

Spurred on by the support on the sidelines by manager Chris Cole Worton moved into another gear and their reward arrived on 24 minutes when captain Danny Williams headed them level.

Poor defending from Old Road led to Worton taking the lead on 44 minutes, Kyle Davies pounceing on a loose ball to head in number two and a minute late Worton led 3-1 with Ben Strange scoring from a corner.

Old Road reduced the arrears early in the second half when Andrew Rose saw his effort helped into the net by the unfortunate Alex Bailey.

Worton regained a two-goal cushion when Martin Dickinson pounced on a loose ball to make it 4-2.  Back came Worton with Rose beatin the offside trap to fire home from 25 yards for 3-4.

Two late penalties both scored by Dickinson saw him complete his hat-trick.
