NORTH Bradley produced one of the shock results of the weekend as they stretched their winning run to seven matches on the spin with a 3-0 victory at joint-leaders FC Bradford, for whom it was their first loss of the season.
A brilliant first-half performance from Bradley saw them take control of the game as they scored all three of their goals.
The first came on two minutes when Nathan Flower put them ahead from the penalty spot.
Pete Spong made it 2-0 before Kieran Baggs' tremendous half-volley from 30 yards put them in cruise control before the interval.
Baggs then went from hero to villain when he was given his marching orders on 56 minutes for dreadful challenge on Dan Parker.
With Bradley down to 10 men Bradford failed to make any inroads and couldn’t find their way through a well-organised defence.
And with just four minutes remaining they were also reduced to 10 players when Jake Jordan was sent off for have too much to say to the match official.
With the teams set to meet each other again later in the month Bradley will take heart from their victory.
And if they can repeat the same form at the end of February they have every chance of completing a league double over Pete Collier’s side who will be out for revenge.
Atworth United 5 Chippenham Sports & Social Club 1
ATWORTH United should have few worries about relegation after they picked up maximum points for a second successive weekend.
They followed up last week's nailbiting 5-4 victory over basement side Miller Sports with a comprehensive 5-1 win at home to Chippenham Sports & Social Club, who had beaten them earlier this year.
Atworth, who were tipped for defeat, proved the pundits wrong as they put in one of their best performances of the season to shock their guests.
Scott Boyd scored Atworth’s opener and Joe Murray doubled their lead before Chippenham Sports really threatened the home team.
Goals from Andy Cox and Ian Jeffery, who scored from the rebound after his penalty had been saved by keeper Graham Jones, gave Atworth a 4-0 half-time lead and although James Weston pulled a goal back for Bob Monteith’s side at the start of the second half it counted for nothing.
Atworth scored their fifth via Ross Menghini for whom it was his 13th goal of the season.
Bradford News v Bremhill View Social Club - postponed
BOTH Bradford News and Bremhill View Social Club were left frustrated as they had to miss another weekend of football due to the weather.
It might not have been raining, snowing and their wasn’t even a frost on the ground but their match which was planned for Bradford Sports Club, Trowbridge Road, Bradford fell foul of the recent bad conditions.
Less than 24 hours earlier Bradford Town had beaten Elmore 2-0 on the ground, but with a Toolstation League match against Wells City scheduled for Tuesday night the groundstaff had to work on repairing the pitch for that fixture which meant that Bradford had to suffer their fifth home cancellation of the season.
FC Colerne 1 Pheasant FC 2
CHIPPENHAM-BASED Pheasant may be top of the table, but they can thank their lucky stars that they took the spoils from their trip to FC Colerne.
Pheasant have been well below par in recent weeks and, having had a nervy 3-2 success over basement side Miller Sports a fortnight ago, they were hoping for a more convincing win.
But come the final whistle of a fascinating contest manager Ollie Selman was just happy to have won the game which, thanks to other results, saw them open up a two-point lead at the summit.
A poor back pass led to Tom Jones giving Pheasant the lead and when Alex Orledge made it 2-0 it looked as if they would coast home.
But the first goal in the second half would always be important and Colerne thought they had got it when Jordan Colter’s efforts looked to be heading in.
Only a remarkable save from Brain Moses kept it out to keep the score at 2-0.
Moses kept his side in the game with more great stops and when Jamie Lees reduced the arrears for Colerne it looked as if they may go on to claim an unlikely result.
But time and brave defending put paid to any hopes they had of earning a point.
Foresters Arms 4 AFC Calne 1
A SEVENTH win of the season for Foresters Arms keeps them in the promotion race and their 4-1 victory over AFC Calne was their fourth two-pointer on the spin.
It owed much to the heroics of both keeper John Wiltshire and Luke Turvey, who had excellent games.
Jamie Treweke gave Foresters a half-time lead which they doubled early in the second half thanks to Turvey who was set up by Ian Dowell.
Turvey then turned provider for Foresters third and fourth goals, laying the ball to Marc Harewood who finished well for 3-0 and then playing in Greg Wilmot who crashed home number four.
Foresters keeper Wiltshire was denied the clean sheet that his performance deserved when he was beaten 20 seconds from time by Aaron Clegg, who scored following a Calne corner.
