CORSHAM Centre kept their dreams of reaching a third Wiltshire Sunday Cup final alive following their 7-1 victory over Swindon Sunday League Third Division side Village Inn.
Corsham welcomed Adie Webb and Dan King to their ranks and it was the latter who opened the scoring on 10 minutes from a great through-ball from Ross Lye.
Against an under strength Village Inn side, Richard Boore bossed the midfield and the Centre were dominant as Jason Brooks-Stephens scored number two and Craig Gingell number three to give the hosts 3-0 interval lead.
Further goals from Simon Gray and Darrin Morris made it 5-0.
Second goals for Gingell and Brooks-Stephens brought the score to seven before Village Inn scored a late consolation from the penalty spot.
Following the no-show of scheduled match referee Piers Mountgarret, Village Inn manager/club secretary Bob Livingstone stepped in to save the day and received praise from the Centre’s Pete Ralph for his handling of the game.
The Centre, who lifted the cup in 2006 and 2008, now need to avoid holders Greyhound in the semis to have a good chance of making the final.
