WITHAM Friary faced one of their biggest challenges to date and they came out their game against Gladstone Rovers with their 100 per cent record intact as they battered their guests to claim a resounding 8-0 victory.
Richard Gould’s side, who have blown away all of their league opponents this season, recorded a sixth successive win that saw them narrow the gap on the top two, Potterne B and leaders Lavington (Sunday), who were both inactive. Witham, who had the perfect build up to their game with Lavington this coming Sunday, took the lead in the very first minute when Ian Kennedy scored from the penalty spot.
A Kirk Latham double, the second of which was a simple tap in gave them a 3-0 half time lead.
Ashley Doel headed home number four, which was his first goal of the season, before Dan Reynolds made it 5-0.
Simon Millard, who can normally be relied upon to get a few goals, largely missed out in the rout with his only goal of the game making it 6-0.
Kennedy’s second of the game made it 7-0 before Reynolds claimed his second of the match to complete the scoring with what was the goal of the game. Reynolds beat a clutch of players before finding the net for a brilliant individual effort.
Chippenham West End 7 Audley Spartans 1
CHIPPENHAM West End defeated local rivals Audley Spartans 7-1 to record only their second win of the season.
West End led 2-0 at the break, thanks to goals from James Mullhall and Steve Coleman, who volleyed home a delicious delivery from his brother Lee.
An error from the West End keeper Dan Belt at the start of the second half allowed Jason Forde the chance to reduce the arrears and it was game on.
But West End got their noses in front once again when Joel Lander turned home a Mullhall cross and from then on things went downhill for the Spartans as the West End scored four more goals.
Phil Mellor made it 4-1 and Lander was on hand to add number five when he followed up and tap in after Stuart Koffie had turned a Mellor shot onto the crossbar. West End’s sixth was the pick of their seven, Steve Coleman turned his marker and ran from 30 yards and beat the keeper in a one-on-one situation.
The scoring was completed by Joel Lander who scored after good work from Mellor to seal a three timer and wrap up a comfortable win for the West End.
AFC Lyneham 2 Corsham Park Rangers 5
CORSHAM Park Rangers moved into fifth place following their 5-2 victory at AFC Lyneham, who would have been expecting to give Rangers a much harder game than they did.
Lyneham took the lead on 25 minutes when Matt Lang was on hand to bundle the ball home after Jake Marshall had cleared a corner off the line.
Lyneham’s lead lasted just three minutes, a long clearance from defence picking out Kevin Bance who went one on one with keeper Nathan Smith and tucked the ball under him. Rangers took the lead in the 38th minute, when Guy Turner’s cross shot was misjudged by keeper Smith and sailed over him to give the visitors the goal advantage.
Five minutes later Rangers added number three when Simon Young’s free kick went through the wall and low to the keeper's right hand side.
And a minute later Rangers went 4-1 ahead when Lydon Cambourne ran clean through to finish well to put his team well in command after an entertaining first half.
Lyneham pulled a goal back on 58 minutes when Chris Iddon scored from the penalty spot after Rangers Turner conceded the spot kick.
Rangers completed the scoring in the 75th minute when a scramble in the Lyneham’s goal mouth broke to substitute Luke Cottis, who had just come on and his shot was adjudged to have crossed the line by referee Kevin Amor who had an excellent game in the middle.
