CHIPPENHAM & DISTRICT SUNDAY LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION: Social keep pressure on Westbury
2:00pm Monday 14th October 2013 in News
A 6-1 WIN for defending S.K. Fruits Ltd, Chippenham League Premier Division champions Biddestone Social at Semington Rovers saw them keep up the pressure on leaders Westbury Rangers, who also maintained their own winning start to the season.
Jake Hiscocks, Aaron Tinson and Beau Blackman shared the goals that gave Social a 3-0 interval lead over their hosts.
A first goal for the club for Ajay Arithoppah made it 4-0 before Stuart Barber pulled a goal back for Semington.
An injury to Steve Rosling meant that Semington had to finish the game with 10 men and, with their man advantage, Social's Mickey Baggs made it 5-1 when he scored with a well-placed free kick and Ryan Baggs added Biddestone’s sixth to complete another miserable day for the hosts.
Bug & Spider FC 7 Steeple Ashton Rangers 4
WITH both Bug & Spider and Steeple Ashton Rangers struggling for a side due to a shortage of players, their meeting at Beversbrook was always going to come down to which side could field the strongest starting 11.
It appears that it was the home team who helped by a commanding first half performance claimed a 7-4 win.
Aaron Hopkins, Kieran Gleed and Marcus Lovesey’s goals put the Bug & Spider 3-0 up before Chris Brady with his first ever Ashton goal reduced the deficit.
Steve Allison and Alex Lewis scored to extend the Bug’s lead only for Lee Mounty to score from the spot to give Ashton a fight chance in the second half.
A second from Kieran Gleed and another Alex Lewis effort made up the Bug’s seven with goals from Jake Sainsbury and another for Lee Mounty making the score look a little more respectable for Ashton.
Westbury Rangers 5 AFC Melksham 1
SHAUN Gardiner’s Westbury Rangers avoided a potential banana skin at home to AFC Melksham who have been a bogey side to Rangers in the past.
On this occasion the result went to form with the Meadow Lane side winning 5-1
Scott Walford marked his debut for Rangers with their opening goal on 8 minutes that saw his delightful lob give the hosts a half-time lead.
Shane Newman doubled the hosts lead with his first of three on 50 minutes. A second from Newman in the 78th minute made it 3-0.
Sam McQueen added Rangers' fourth 10 minutes from time and with a minute left of play Newman scored his third of the morning to complete his hat-trick which came after Ian Dowell had netted Melksham’s consolation in the 87th minute.
