CHIPPENHAM & DISTRICT SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION THREE PREVIEW: Wren hunt back-to-back wins
4:00pm Friday 6th September 2013 in News
WE MAY only be one week into the new season but Wren FC, who failed to take a single point from their 20 games last season, will look at the Division Three table and unexpectedly see their name at the top of it.
Matt Fenn's new-look side will hope to build on their opening day success over Pig & Whistle when they take on Sportzcoach Dragonz United.
Honours were even last term between FC North Wiltshire and Trowbridge Town Supporters Club with one win each, however it was a 2-1 win for North Wilts over the Town in April that ended the latter’s hopes of beating them to the Division Four title.
Melksham Cosmos will grace the Conigre for the first-ever time when they play hosts to Old Road FC. Having moved from Goatacre to Melksham, Matt Bowden’s side will be hoping that their new ground will bring with it a change of fortune.
Having said that, Cosmos took a point of their guests last term and have they players who could follow up last week's win over North Star B by taking a point from one of the title favourites.
Pig & Whistle United and North Star B will lock horns at Awdry Avenue in Melksham with both teams hoping to bounce back after opening day losses.
The Star closed out last term with a 5-2 win over Richard Allen’s side, but almost a year to the day ago United took the points thanks to a 1-0 win.
Both Worton & Cheverell (Sunday) and Christian Malford lost their opening day matches by the odd goal, Malford losing a thriller at Trowridge Supporters 6-5, while Worton suffered a 1-0 loss against Crossblades.
Malford proved they can score but not defend, while Worton who host Malford this weekend, look as if they are in need of a striker.
