CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION ONE PREVIEW: Battle for silverware wide open
12:30pm Friday 30th August 2013 in News
WHITE Horse (Sunday) A travel to Bromham (Sunday) for their first crack at life in Division One this weekend.
Following their promotion last season as division two runners-up, White Horse manager Clive Black has strengthened his squad and they should have more than enough firepower to hold their own in the division.
Bromham, who won just four of their last 36 league outings last term, could again face a battle for survival.
Having got his Kings Arms (All Cannings) side into the division, manager Jim Wilson will be hoping that the villagers can come good.
Wilson’s men start by hosting North Star A who, over the last two seasons have struggled, winning just once last term.
Star may just start with a win for the first time since 2009 when they beat Green Bell 1-0, a team that many of the Arms players once played for.
What should be a tasty local derby takes place at Stanley Park where Prestige Bodyworks play host to division new boys Chippenham West End.
Both teams suffered from inconsistency last term and they know how important it will be to start with a win, but with bragging rights at stake there is a very good chance that honours will end up even.
The match of the day in the division is the one between Somerford FC and Goatacre CC who are no strangers to each other.
The latter were battered 7-0 by Spike Chandler’s side on their way to winning the Division Two title last term, so they will be out to avenge that humiliating loss.
Promoted Staverton will begin life in the division by hosting Corsham CC Wildcats (formerly Biddestone White Horse).
The hosts will still be smarting after missing out on automatic promotion from Division Two and Aaron Latchem will be hoping that his team can find that form that led them to winning back-to-back titles in 2011 and 2012.
